Job Title: Specialist SEND Teaching Assistant – (SLD/ASD)

Catholic Primary School is seeking a dedicated, hands-on Specialist SEND Teaching Assistant to join Resource Provision.
The class is one of two specialist provisions in school and offers a safe, nurturing and highly structured environment for pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex social communication needs.
This is not a general classroom TA role. We are looking for someone who is ready to fully immerse themselves in a specialist environment, work closely as part of a skilled SEND team, and make a genuine difference to pupils who require intensive, personalised support.
About The Class
The Class is a pre-formal class, where learning focuses on the foundations of lifelong development:
- Early communication and interaction
- Sensory engagement and regulation
- Social development and play
- Early cognitive development (literacy, numeracy, problem solving)
- Building engagement with the world around them
We follow the Equals Curriculum, specifically designed for pupils with SEND, delivered through a 4-year rolling cycle to allow pupils to revisit, embed and consolidate essential skills.
What the Role Involves
- You will be working as part of a high adult-to-pupil ratio team, supporting pupils through:
- Highly personalised learning programmes
- Visuals, symbols, signing and alternative communication approaches
- Sensory circuits and use of a dedicated sensory space
- Supporting pupils with regulation, engagement and interaction
- Delivering interventions alongside specialists including:
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Drawing and Talking Therapy
- Nurture sessions
- Social skills groups
- SHINE Therapy
This role requires someone who is:
- Proactive and practical
- Calm, patient and emotionally resilient
- Comfortable supporting pupils with complex needs
- Confident working in a sensory-rich, hands-on environment
- Passionate about SEND and making meaningful progress for every child
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience working with children with SLD, ASD or complex SEND
- A strong understanding of sensory needs and communication support strategies
- The ability to work closely within a specialist team
- A nurturing approach with high expectations for pupil engagement
- The willingness to learn, adapt and fully commit to the class ethos
