About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team at a school in Croydon. The role involves providing support to a female student with significant mental health issues in a 1-to-1 setting. The successful candidate must have experience working in a SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) setting and be able to remain calm in heightened situations. The ability to work 4 days a week is required.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working 1-to-1 with students
- Experience working in a SEMH setting
- Ability to support a student with significant mental health issues
- Capable of remaining calm in heightened situations
- Willingness to work 4 days a week
- Understanding of the needs of students with SEMH and behavioural difficulties who have disengaged with education
- Ability to break down tasks into small steps and manageable parts for student success
- Recognise early signs of dysregulation and sensory overload
- Confidence with de-escalation strategies
- Motivated to make a positive difference in students' learning and possess a high level of initiative
- Arts/creative background beneficial as this is the student's chosen pathway
Qualifications:
- Relevant education or teaching assistant qualification
- Enhanced DBS check
- Safeguarding training
