Primary Teaching Assistant
This lovely school in Birmingham is looking for an experienced SEN TA to support them long-term. The role is full-time and will involve providing support in a Year 3 general class in the mornings, and working 1:1 with a Year 5 pupil who is autistic, has limited verbal vocabulary, and finds it difficult to interact with other pupils in class in the afternoons.
About the Role:
- Assist the class teacher in delivering lessons and supporting the learning of all students.
- Afternoons - Provide 1:1 support to the Year 5 pupil with autism, helping them to engage in classroom activities and develop their social skills.
- Collaborate with the SENCO and other staff members to create individualized education plans and implement strategies to support the pupil's progress.
- Monitor and record the pupil's behavior and progress, providing feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students, promoting their wellbeing and academic development.
Requirements:
- Experience working as a teaching assistant in a primary school setting.
- Knowledge and understanding of working with children with special educational needs, particularly autism.
- Ability to effectively communicate and engage with pupils with limited verbal vocabulary.
- Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach when working with children.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
Qualifications:
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
- Safeguarding training certificate.
- Enhanced DBS check.
- Any additional relevant qualifications or training in special educational needs would be beneficial.
