Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated District Paraprofessional to join our team in supporting high school students within a specialized district school in San Diego County. This full-time role is integral to our mission of providing an inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environment tailored to students with moderate to severe disabilities and individualized education plans. The successful candidate will work closely with credentialed teachers, assisting with academic instruction and behavioral support to meet the diverse needs of our students. The position begins immediately and continues through the school year, offering an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students who benefit from a nurturing and structured educational setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the teacher in delivering and reinforcing academic instruction tailored to students with emotional disturbances and moderate to severe disabilities.
- Support the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs), ensuring instruction aligns with each student's goals and needs.
- Provide behavioral support through the application of evidence-based strategies such as token economies and de-escalation techniques.
- Collect and analyze behavioral data to inform instruction and intervention plans.
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviors, ensuring safety for all students and staff.
- Support students with personal care needs, including diapering, toileting, and assisting with feeding and mealtime routines.
- Assist with transfers, mobility, and positioning of non-ambulatory students, following safe lifting and transfer procedures.
- Support students during bus boarding and departure, ensuring safety and proper behavior.
- Monitor student emotional regulation, providing appropriate responses or space as needed.
- Promote positive social and behavioral skills through consistent reinforcement and modeling.
- Assist with classroom management and behavior motivation techniques.
- Support students during transitions, field trips, and other school activities to maintain a safe and structured environment.
- Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, behavior incidents, and interventions.
- Collaborate regularly with teachers and support staff to ensure cohesive and effective instructional and behavioral strategies.
- Demonstrate respectful, positive interactions with students, maintaining a tone consistent with the school’s ethos of compassion, patience, and respect.
Working Conditions:
- Engage in physical activities such as lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects and students.
- Sit or stand for extended periods to monitor classroom activities.
- Observe and assess student behavior and performance.
- Communicate verbally and non-verbally with students, staff, and families.
- Bend at the waist and operate instructional equipment with dexterity.
- Regularly lift and move moderately heavy loads using safe techniques.
