Saint Gabriel’s College is seeking a compassionate, dedicated and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in achieving their full potential. Working closely with teachers, the SEND team, pastoral staff and families, the successful candidate will help create an inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued, supported and empowered to succeed.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide in-class support to students with SEND across a range of subjects and year groups.
• Deliver targeted interventions and support programmes under the guidance of the SENDCo and teaching staff.
• Support students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups to develop academic, social and emotional skills.
• Adapt learning resources and classroom activities to meet individual student needs.
• Assist students in accessing the curriculum and achieving their personalised learning targets.
• Promote student independence whilst providing appropriate levels of support.
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and the SEND team.
• Contribute to the implementation and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and support plans.
• Support positive behaviour and encourage engagement in learning through restorative and inclusive approaches.
• Build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and external agencies.
• Assist with examination access arrangements where required.
• Support students during enrichment activities, educational visits and wider school events.
• Uphold safeguarding procedures and contribute to the wellbeing and welfare of all students.
• Promote the inclusive ethos and values of Saint Gabriel’s College in all aspects of the role.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will:
• Have experience supporting children or young people with SEND, preferably within a secondary school setting.
• Demonstrate a genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
• Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Be patient, resilient, empathetic and adaptable.
• Have a good understanding of a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, social, emotional and mental health needs, and learning difficulties.
• Be confident working collaboratively with teachers, support staff and external professionals.
• Have strong organisational skills and the ability to use initiative.
• Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Support the school's inclusive Christian ethos and commitment to ensuring every student fulfils their unique potential.
• Hold GCSE English and Mathematics (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent qualifications.
Desirable
• Relevant Teaching Assistant, SEND or Education qualification.
• Experience supporting students with EHCPs.
• Knowledge of intervention strategies and inclusive classroom practice.
• Experience working within a diverse secondary school environment.
