General Cover Cover Supervisor - Greenwich Secondary

We are seeking a resilient, empathetic, and highly organised Behaviour Mentor to manage our Internal Exclusion Room (Isolation Room) and deliver targeted interventions that help students get back on track. The Role As a Behaviour Mentor, you will be the anchor of our behavior management system. This is not a passive monitoring role; you will be actively working to turn a student's day around. When students are removed from lessons due to disruptive behavior, they will be placed under your supervision. Your goal is to maintain a calm, silent, and productive environment where students can complete their academic work, while also using that time to reflect on their actions, identify triggers, and develop better coping mechanisms. Key Responsibilities Room Management: Maintain absolute order, high expectations, and a quiet, focused study environment within the school's Isolation / Internal Exclusion room. Behaviour Mentoring: Deliver structured, 1-to-1 reflective sessions with students to discuss why they were sent out, the impact of their actions, and how to successfully reintegrate into their regular classrooms. Academic Support: Ensure students are actively working on the curriculum packs or digital work provided by their subject teachers, offering basic academic guidance where needed. De-escalation: De-escalate challenging behaviours or high-stress situations with composure, authority, and empathy. Data & Tracking: Maintain accurate, up-to-date logs of student attendance, behaviour patterns, and progress within the room using the school's database (e.g., SIMS/Arbor). Collaboration: Work closely with Heads of Year, the SENDCo, and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to share insights on recurring behaviors and contribute to individual Behaviour Support Plans. About You This role is challenging but incredibly rewarding. The ideal candidate will possess a "firm but fair" approach and understand that challenging behavior is often a form of communication. Experience & Qualifications Experience: Previous experience working with young people (aged 11–16) in a secondary school, alternative provision, youth work, or a similar challenging environment is essential. Skills: Strong behaviour management skills with a proven ability to handle defiance or disruption calmly and professionally. Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills—you can build rapport with hard-to-reach teenagers while maintaining professional boundaries. Resilience: A thick skin, high emotional intelligence, and the ability to start every single day with a fresh, positive outlook for every student. Local Knowledge (Desirable): An understanding of the Greenwich community and the specific contextual challenges faced by young people in South East London.
