We are seeking a reliable and dedicated caretaker to join our vibrant primary school community in Stockport. This full-time role is To provide a safe, clean, secure, and well-maintained learning environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. The Caretaker is responsible for the overall security of the premises, minor DIY repairs, routine health and safety checks, and supervising cleaning operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Security of Premises (Primary Keyholder)
Locking & Unlocking: Open the school gates and buildings every morning, deactivating alarms; secure all windows, doors, and gates every evening and reset alarms.
Emergency Response: Act as the main point of contact for out-of-hours emergency call-outs (e.g., alarm activations, break-ins, or extreme weather).
Visitor Monitoring: Safeguard the site by checking the ID of external contractors and guiding them safely around the premises.
2. General Maintenance & DIY Repairs
Handyman Tasks: Perform basic plumbing, carpentry, minor electrical work (e.g., changing lightbulbs/tubes), unblocking drains, and internal painting or redecoration.
Grounds Maintenance: Keep outdoor pathways, playgrounds, and car parks clear of litter, weeds, and autumn leaves.
Seasonal Care: Grit and clear snow from main pathways during winter to prevent slips and ensure safe access.
3. Health & Safety Compliance
Testing Systems: Conduct and log regular testing of fire alarms, emergency lighting, and water temperature flushes (Legionella prevention checks).
Hazard Inspection: Proactively walk the site daily to identify and resolve immediate safety hazards before children arrive.
