We are looking for a SEN TA to work with an autistic child in year 1.
The child is absolutely lovely and is looking for someone he can build a relationship with.
There are no challenging behaviours or aggressive outbreaks.
The child is limited verbally with echolalia (this is repetition of sounds, phrases, or words). As the child can repeat speech this is a real opportunity to build his bank of words.
The most important strategy with this pupil is to build two elements into his school day - rapport and routine.
- The school provides timers, visuals and the child spends a split amount of time in both a mainstream classroom and a designated space.
Skills required are:
- Proactive
- Active Listener
- Flexible
- Resilience to change
- Understand that boundaries create a secure and safe environment for the child.
