PART-TIME MUSIC TEACHER with QTS
Reporting To: Head of Music
Hours: Part-time, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 8.00am – 4.00pm plus additional times as specified
by the Headteacher
Key areas of responsibility
•To be an inspirational teacher of class Music, using keyboard, vocal and instrumental skills to promote high quality teaching and learning.
•To ensure that the classroom and display areas are an invigorating environment for effective learning, creating a stimulating atmosphere for the pupils.
• To provide piano accompaniment for rehearsals, concerts, assemblies, music exams and other events.
• To promote individual music lessons and work with peripatetic teachers.
• To work effectively as part of a staff team.
• To teach class music lessons to pupils from the Nursery, Reception, Year 1 & 2.
• To work with other colleagues to develop the use of ICT and tablets in music lessons
• To write termly academic reports, and to monitor and evaluate pupils’ learning in order to ensure high standards and progress.
• To carry out all the usual duties of a teacher at Gatehouse School (supervision of breaktimes and taking occasional assemblies).
• To develop open, easy and professional relationships with parents.
• To help maintain and manage the physical resources of the department.
• To attend all meetings as required including subject and staff meetings, school INSET, and to attend
professional courses to enhance the teaching of music.
• To support and generally contribute to the life of the school (eg contributing material to newsletters, the website and attending school events).
• To comply with all Health and Safety requirements.
Person specification
• A passionate and dynamic music teacher who is committed to the development of music at the school.
• Have strong keyboard, vocal and instrumental skills, who can make a key contribution both to class music teaching and to the extra-curricular musical life of the school.
• Have the experience, ability and drive to lead the department.
• A colleague who will fulfil the expectations in the key areas of responsibility set out above.
• An adaptable musician and professional colleague, with strong communication and team-working skills.
• A colleague who is wholly committed to the safeguarding, welfare and protection of children at the school
