We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Secondary Teaching Assistant to work with our SEN pupils. Key Responsibilities:
SEN / SEMH / EHCP Support
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support tailored to students with identified needs, ensuring equitable access to the curriculum.
- Implement personalised strategies and interventions set by teachers, the SENCo, and external specialists, monitoring progress and adjusting approaches as necessary.
- Support students’ emotional regulation, social communication, behaviour management, and resilience development.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, concerns, and interventions to inform ongoing support planning.
Teaching & Learning
- Prepare, adapt, and deliver resources that facilitate access to learning for pupils with diverse needs.
- Break down tasks, scaffold activities, and guide students through their learning to promote independence.
- Assist in delivering targeted literacy, numeracy, and communication interventions, supporting inclusion across the classroom.
- Contribute to maintaining a calm, structured environment conducive to learning and behaviour management.
- Support whole-class teaching and behaviour strategies as directed by teachers, ensuring an inclusive and positive classroom climate.
- Observe, record, and communicate student progress and behavioural developments to the teaching team.
Pastoral Support
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students requiring additional support, fostering their confidence and well-being.
- Conduct check-ins to identify and address barriers to learning, supporting self-regulation and emotional resilience.
- Support restorative conversations and behaviour management plans to promote positive relationships and behaviour.
- Supervise students during break, lunch, and other transition times, maintaining a safe and respectful environment.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the SENCo, pastoral staff, and wider team to plan, review, and evaluate support strategies.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, carers, and external agencies, respecting confidentiality at all times.
- Liaise with external professionals, such as speech and language therapists or behaviour specialists, to support student needs.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns promptly to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
Outcomes & Wider Academy Responsibilities
- Uphold the academy’s core values and policies, contributing to a respectful, achievement-focused environment.
- Support participation in school events, parents’ evenings, and collaborative activities with colleagues.
- Assist with follow-up tasks from external agencies, attend relevant meetings and training sessions.
- Support extracurricular activities, trips, and visits, as well as undertake additional duties such as first aid, fire marshal, or gate duties when required.
- Engage in any other reasonable duties as directed by SLT or your Line Manager, contributing to the overall success of the academy.
