Job description

A public school district is seeking a dedicated and energetic Academic Support Tutor (38 hours biweekly) to join their elementary teaching team. This role is vital in fostering a positive learning environment by providing both instructional and behavioral support to students in literacy and mathematics. The ideal candidate is a patient, proactive individual who can seamlessly pivot between small-group tutoring, classroom management assistance, and essential administrative tasks. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Instructional Support & Student Engagement -- Academic Tutoring: Work directly with students in small groups or one-on-one settings to reinforce core concepts in literacy and mathematics. Classroom Assistance: Support the lead teacher in daily operations, helping students complete assignments and facilitating the use of instructional technology. Instructional Prep: Assist in setting up the classroom and preparing materials to ensure lessons run smoothly. Supervision & Student Safety -- Active Supervision: Ensure student safety during high-movement periods, including cafeteria lunch, outdoor recess, and bus arrival/dismissal. Behavioral Modeling: Maintain a disciplined, respectful, and inclusive environment by modeling appropriate behavior and using established behavior management techniques. Emergency Response: Actively intervene in unsafe situations and assess minor injuries to determine if nursing care is required. Administrative & Operational Support -- Clerical Duties: Manage attendance reports, lunch counts, and general office tasks as requested by the building principal. Classroom Coverage: Provide temporary classroom coverage during teacher meetings or administrative breaks. Professional Development: Participate in district-provided training sessions and use feedback to continuously improve instructional skills. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or higher preferred. Experience: Previous experience in a school setting, summer camp, or childcare environment is highly valued. Clerical or office management experience is a plus. SKILLS: Basic understanding of child development principles. Strong communication skills (written and verbal) for interacting with staff and students. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general classroom technology. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records. Certifications: CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred (or a willingness to obtain them). Work Environment & Physical Demands -- Must be comfortable working in a dynamic school environment, including both indoor classrooms and outdoor playground settings. Requires the ability to remain stationary for extended periods as well as move quickly throughout the building. Ability to monitor student safety through high visual and auditory awareness.

What roles do you cover?

We help Teachers, Teachers Assistants, Teachers Aides, and Paraprofessionals find work. We work with all types of schools and help with short-term, long-term, and permanent roles. Many of our long-term roles convert to permanent roles. We make it far easier than a traditional agency for teachers to convert temporary positions into permanent ones.

Do you have early childhood or K-12 roles?

Yes. We can help with daily subbing and long-term jobs in nurseries, primary schools and secondary schools. We don't typically have jobs in higher education or college.

What areas do you cover?

We work with over 500 schools in Minneapolis St Paul - Minnesota, Denver - Colorado, Los Angeles - California and Phoenix - Arizona, San Diego California, The Bay Area California

Do you have school administrator roles?

If you're looking for teaching or teaching assistant roles, and would also be interested in admin roles, it's worth letting us know. If you're only looking for admin roles, we might not be the place for you as this isn't what we specialize in.

Do you provide any training for teachers?

Yes, we have educators on staff who offer expertise and training to Zen Educate teachers. Regions vary in the training sessions that are required / offered.

How is Zen Educate different from a recruitment agency?

Zen Educate is a technology platform to connect teachers with schools directly. Agencies are an expensive middleman between schools and teachers. They have to charge high commissions because their booking procedures are largely manual and run on outdated systems. Because we run more of the process online or on your phone, we create an experience that matches schools and teachers at a fraction of the cost.

What documents do I need to provide in the vetting process?

We'll need a photo for professional use, resume, and a document reflecting your highest level of education. In addition, we'll need a right to work and background check. Your region or school may require other training or documentation - our recruitment team will guide you through each step!
