Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated District Paraprofessional to support high school students within a district special education program located in Los Angeles County. This full-time role aligns with our school's mission to foster an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of all students. As part of our committed team, you will work closely with educators to provide classroom and individual support to students with moderate to severe disabilities, including behavioral, cognitive, and physical needs. The position runs throughout the school year, starting at the beginning of the academic term, with opportunities for ongoing professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to high school students with moderate to severe disabilities, including behavioral, academic, cognitive, and physical needs, in accordance with individualized education programs (IEPs).
- Assist educators in implementing instructional strategies, behavioral interventions, and accommodations tailored to each student's needs.
- Support students with personal care routines such as toileting, feeding, and mobility assistance, ensuring safety and dignity.
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviors using evidence-based behavioral strategies; monitor and document behavioral data to inform support plans.
- Assist with classroom management, including supervising students during transitions, lunch, field trips, and bus departures.
- Support the use of positive behavior reinforcement techniques, including token economies, to promote social and emotional regulation.
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to reinforce instructional goals and behavioral expectations.
- Help prepare instructional materials and assist with implementing individualized behavior intervention plans.
- Monitor student safety and well-being across all school settings, maintaining a respectful and positive environment.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior data, and interventions.
- Follow all district protocols, health and safety guidelines, and confidentiality requirements.
Working Conditions:
- Assist with physical tasks such as lifting, transferring, and repositioning students as needed.
- Sit or stand for extended periods and observe student activities.
- Use hands and fingers to operate instructional equipment and assistive devices.
- Communicate effectively with students and staff, employing a respectful and positive tone.
- Perform duties that require bending, reaching, and lifting in accordance with safety procedures.
Additional Notes/Qualifications/Requirements:
- Requires district-specific background check and clearance.
- CPI training and experience in behavior management are preferred.
- Experience working with students with ASD, BIP, or other special needs is desirable.
- Must have a High School Diploma, 48 college credits, and comfort with providing personal care.
- Previous experience in special education, particularly Level 2, is advantageous.
