About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and resilient SEN Co-Teacher (Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant) to join a vibrant Year 6 team. This school is built on the firm belief that pupils with SEND thrive when relationships are strong, routines are highly predictable, communication is clear, and support is precisely tailored. Working closely with the Year 6 Class Teacher and the SENDCo, you will use agreed strategies consistently to help students navigate their final year of primary school and prepare for the big leap to secondary education.
Key Responsibilities
Adapted Learning Support: Tailor curriculum resources and learning materials so pupils with complex needs can fully access Year 6 lessons and wider school life.
Calm Crisis Management: Support pupils patiently and calmly through moments of emotional, sensory, or academic difficulty using positive de-escalation strategies.
Structured Routines & Transitions: Implement visual timetables, structured routines, and sensory circuits to help pupils transition smoothly between different school spaces and tasks.
Targeted Interventions: Deliver impactful 1:1 support and small-group interventions focused on communication, social-emotional development, and core curriculum skills.
Inclusion & Partnership: Work collaboratively with school staff and maintain warm, professional communication with parents and carers regarding student progress.
Who We Are Looking For
Experience: A proven track record of working with children with SEND, particularly pupils with Autism (ASD), speech and communication needs, sensory processing difficulties, or social and emotional needs.
Skill Toolkit: Practical experience utilizing autism-specific strategies, visual timetables, social stories, and sensory circuits.
Attributes: A warm, patient, and highly structured professional who understands that consistency and strong relationships are the foundation of SEND success.
Mission-Driven: Someone who shares our absolute commitment to giving every child an excellent education and real choices in life, regardless of their background or needs.
