Salary: MPS/UPS (Main Pay Scale / Upper Pay Scale – £30,000–£46,525 FTE, dependent on experience)

Reporting to: Head of Department (Humanities/RE)
Job Purpose
We are seeking to appoint a passionate and reflective Teacher of Religious Education to join our thriving Humanities faculty. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality RE lessons that engage, challenge, and inspire students across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and Key Stage 5 if applicable), in line with the locally agreed syllabus and national expectations.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver high-quality lessons in Religious Education in accordance with the agreed syllabus and school curriculum.
- Teach across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and KS5 if required), preparing students for GCSE examinations (e.g. AQA/Edexcel RE).
- Use a range of teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND and EAL.
- Assess, monitor, and track student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Maintain high expectations for behaviour and achievement in line with school policies.
Curriculum and Department Contribution
- Contribute to the development and enrichment of the RE curriculum, ensuring it reflects both national guidance and the diverse local context of Liverpool.
- Support the promotion of SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development) and British values across the school.
- Engage in departmental planning, moderation, and collaborative practice.
Pastoral Responsibilities
- Act as a form tutor (if required), supporting students’ personal development, wellbeing, and academic progress.
- Build positive relationships with students, parents/carers, and colleagues.
Whole School Contribution
- Participate fully in school life, including extracurricular activities, trips, and events.
- Contribute to the school’s ethos of inclusion, respect, and community engagement.
Safeguarding and Compliance
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in accordance with statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
- Be vigilant in identifying and reporting concerns in line with school safeguarding procedures.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Degree in Religious Education, Theology, Philosophy, or a related subject.
Desirable:
- Evidence of further professional development in RE or education.
Experience
Essential:
- Experience of teaching RE in a secondary school setting (including placements for ECTs).
- Experience of planning and delivering engaging lessons across KS3 and KS4.
- Experience of assessing student progress and using data to inform teaching.
Desirable:
- Experience of teaching GCSE RE (and/or A Level)
- Experience of working in a diverse, urban school setting.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential:
- Strong subject knowledge of Religious Education and an understanding of the national and locally agreed RE curriculum.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students of all abilities and backgrounds.
- Effective classroom management skills.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
Desirable:
- Understanding of Liverpool’s local context and commitment to inclusive education.
