About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated Paraprofessional to join our Sacramento County district team, supporting our commitment to a nurturing, inclusive environment grounded in respect, collaboration, and academic excellence.
This is a unique health aide and special education support role operating Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Your day begins and ends at the Rio Vista High School Bus Yard. You will accompany a student—alongside a Behavior Aide—on a van from Rio Vista to their school in Sacramento, providing continuous support during transit and throughout the academic day.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements:
Medical Support: Prior experience with medical procedures is preferred. You will receive 1-2 hours of specialized training from our school nurse on the student's specific health needs, focusing on non-invasive seizure management (no Diastat required).
Classroom Assistance: Assist teachers in implementing instructional plans, organizing materials, and managing classroom behavior to maintain a positive, orderly environment that respects all students' diverse needs.
Supervision: Supervise students during activities and transitions, ensuring safety and fostering a respectful school culture.
Collaboration: Partner with specialists and staff to implement student progress strategies, emphasizing teamwork while maintaining accurate educational records.
Who are we looking for? You can still apply if you do not meet these criteria::
1. Professional Background
Former Health Aides, CNAs, or Medical Assistants: Because the role specifically requests past experience with medical procedures and involves managing non-invasive seizure support, candidates with a healthcare or caregiving background will be the most comfortable and capable.
Experienced Paraprofessionals or RBTs: Candidates who have previously worked in special education, understand classroom dynamics, and know how to partner with teachers to implement instructional plans.
2. Key Soft Skills & Traits
Calm Under Pressure: They need to be observant and level-headed to monitor the student for seizures during transit and the school day, and to safely manage classroom behavior.
Highly Reliable and Punctual: Since this role dictates the student's ability to get to school (starting at the Rio Vista Bus Yard at exactly 7:00 AM), tardiness is not an option.
Collaborative Team Player: They will be riding in a confined space (a van) with a Behavior Aide and the student, and then working alongside teachers and specialists all day. They need to be great communicators who check their ego at the door.
3. Logistical Fit
Local to Rio Vista: Because the day begins and ends at the Rio Vista High School Bus Yard, the ideal candidate should live relatively close to this starting point to ensure a smooth, sustainable morning commute.
Comfortable with Travel: They must be perfectly fine with spending a significant portion of their morning and afternoon riding in a school van.…About the Role:
