Paraprofessional - Los Angeles County District

Summary: We are seeking a dedicated District Paraprofessional to support high school students within a district special education program in Los Angeles County. This full-time role is vital to our mission of fostering inclusive, supportive, and effective learning environments for students with moderate to severe disabilities. The successful candidate will assist educators in implementing individualized instruction and behavioral strategies tailored to meet diverse cognitive, emotional, and physical needs. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with students, contribute to their success, and uphold the school district’s commitment to equity, respect, and personalized learning. The role starts immediately and continues for the full academic year. Key Responsibilities: - Provide classroom support to students with moderate to severe disabilities, including those with behavioral, cognitive, physical, and emotional needs, in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). - Assist educators in delivering and reinforcing academic instruction, behavioral interventions, and social skills development. - Support students during daily activities such as toileting, feeding, and transitions, including assisting with mobility and transfers as needed. - Implement and monitor behavioral strategies, including positive reinforcement and token economies, to promote appropriate social and emotional behaviors. - Collect and record behavioral data to inform instruction and support planning. - Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviors using approved techniques, ensuring safety for students and staff. - Support students during lunch, field trips, and other school activities, maintaining a safe and inclusive environment. - Assist with bus loading and unloading procedures, ensuring student safety. - Support the adaptation of instructional materials and facilitate small group or one-on-one interventions when required. - Collaborate regularly with teachers, support staff, and families to monitor student progress and implement support strategies. - Maintain accurate documentation of student behaviors, interventions, and progress in accordance with district protocols. - Demonstrate respectful, positive interactions with students, respecting their dignity and promoting a welcoming school climate. Working Conditions: - Engage in lifting, transferring, and assisting with students and classroom materials. - Sit or stand for extended periods, observing and supporting student activities. - Use visual and auditory skills to monitor student behavior and safety. - Communicate effectively with students and staff. - Bending, reaching, and dexterity required for handling equipment and assisting students. - Must be able to lift and move moderately heavy loads safely and consistently. Additional Notes/Qualifications/Requirements: - Requires district-specific background clearance (Livescan). - Completion of onboarding and training sessions provided by the district. - Prior experience working with students with disabilities, particularly those with behavioral challenges, is preferred. - Comfort and experience providing personal care are essential. - Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies, including BIP implementation, is desirable. - Experience working with students with ASD/Autism or SLD is a plus.
