Experienced Teacher – Alternative Provision / Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)
Zen Educate is currently seeking a highly motivated, resilient, and experienced Teacher to join our Alternative Provision / Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) on a full-time basis. This role is best suited to a teacher who understands the complexities of working within an Alternative Provision setting and can remain calm under pressure while building strong, positive relationships with pupils who may display disruptive, disengaged, or emotionally driven behaviours.
About the Role
As part of our dedicated team, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to meet the diverse educational, emotional, and behavioural needs of students. You will work closely with support staff, pastoral teams, families, and external agencies to ensure each learner receives the guidance and interventions necessary to progress both academically and personally.
The role requires a teacher who is patient, strategic, adaptable, and committed to helping students overcome barriers to learning. You will be expected to use effective behaviour management and de-escalation techniques to minimise classroom disruption and maintain a positive learning atmosphere that promotes respect, consistency, and achievement.
You will also be responsible for monitoring student progress, maintaining accurate records, completing assessments and reports, and contributing to individual support plans where necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that meet the individual learning needs of pupils
- Establish and maintain a calm, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
- Effectively manage challenging behaviour using restorative approaches, behaviour intervention strategies, and de-escalation techniques
- Build strong and professional relationships with students to encourage trust, engagement, and positive outcomes
- Monitor, assess, and report on student progress, attendance, behaviour, and achievement
- Produce lesson plans, progress reports, risk assessments, and educational documentation where required
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, SENCOs, and external professionals to support pupil development
- Implement tailored learning strategies and behavioural interventions for individual students
- Support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH)
- Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and improved self-confidence
- Attend staff meetings, safeguarding updates, and any additional training required for the role
- Maintain safeguarding responsibilities and promote the welfare and wellbeing of all students at all times
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Previous experience working within an Alternative Provision, PRU, SEN school, SEMH setting, or similar environment
- Proven experience managing challenging behaviour in an educational setting
- Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies, trauma-informed practice, and restorative approaches
- The ability to remain calm, professional, and consistent in high-pressure situations
- Patience, resilience, emotional intelligence, and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
- Excellent communication, organisational, and classroom management skills
- The ability to adapt teaching methods and learning materials to suit varying abilities and needs
- A proactive and strategic mindset with strong problem-solving skills
- Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and pupil development
- Flexibility, reliability, and willingness to undertake additional training and professional development
