Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Operational / Strategic Planning
- Contribute to whole-school planning activities.
- Assist in developing syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, and teaching strategies within the Curriculum Area.
- Plan and prepare high-quality courses and lessons.
2. Curriculum Provision
- Support the Curriculum Leader in ensuring that the curriculum area offers a range of courses aligned with the School’s strategic objectives.
3. Curriculum Development
- Assist in curriculum development to ensure continued relevance to student needs, awarding body requirements, and the School’s Mission and Strategic Objectives.
4. Staffing and Staff Development
- Participate in the School’s staff development programme, including training and professional learning activities.
- Maintain and develop personal subject knowledge and pedagogy.
- Engage fully in the Performance Management process.
- Contribute positively to effective team working across the School.
5. Quality Assurance
- Support the implementation of School quality assurance procedures.
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation processes within the department, reflecting on practice and performance against quality standards.
- Review and develop teaching methods, programmes of work, and curriculum-related activities.
- Participate in the review, development and management of curriculum organisation and academic mentoring activities.
6. Management Information and Administration
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in line with MIS and School procedures.
- Provide and complete documentation to support the tracking and monitoring of student progress.
7. Communications
- Communicate and consult with parents regarding student progress and welfare.
- Liaise with internal and external partners as appropriate.
- Follow agreed School communication policies and practices.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to safeguarding by promptly communicating any concerns.
8. Marketing and Liaison
- Take part in School marketing and liaison activities such as Open Evenings and transition events.
- Assist with interviewing prospective students.
- Support the development of effective links with external agencies and partner schools.
9. Management of Resources
- Contribute to ordering and allocating equipment and materials.
- Support Curriculum Leaders in identifying resource needs and ensuring efficient, effective use of resources.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure best use of shared resources.
10. Academic Mentoring
- Promote a safe and supportive environment for all students.
- Monitor and support the academic and personal progress of individual students.
- Register students, support assemblies, and encourage full participation in School life.
- Conduct personal review interviews with students to monitor development and set action plans.
- Maintain accurate student records, progress files, profiles and reports.
- Alert Curriculum Leaders to any issues and contribute to support strategies.
- Monitor coursework, targets, attendance, conduct, and rewards/sanctions, taking action where necessary.
- Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student progress or concerns.
- Support School events and deliver the Academic Mentoring Programme.
11. Teaching
- Teach students according to their educational needs, including setting, marking and assessing work completed in School and at home.
- Record and report on attendance, progress, development and attainment.
- Deliver a designated programme of teaching to a high standard.
- Ensure a high-quality learning experience that meets internal and external expectations.
- Prepare, update and develop subject materials.
- Use a range of teaching strategies and learning technologies, including ICT and the VLE, to engage and support students.
- Maintain discipline in line with School procedures, promoting good behaviour, punctuality, standards of work, and homework routines.
- Undertake internal and external assessment duties as required.
- Provide clear written and verbal feedback to students.
