What inspired your move to London?
I decided to move to London as a gateway to exploring Europe and experiencing a different lifestyle. I'd done a couple of European trips previously, but knew I wanted to experience more and to be able to immerse myself in it for longer periods. I initially planned to move for only 1 - 2 years maximum, but I am still here 6 years later!
What’s one of your favourite teaching moments in London?
I was working as a Teacher of the Deaf at an inner London school. I had a year 6 class in which a number of the students had never been to the beach/seaside. We arranged a school trip to a seaside theme park. The joy and excitement I witnessed in the students on this day is something that I will never forget!
What are some of your top London recommendations?
The best thing about London is that you'll never be without something new to discover, and you can actually do a lot of it for super cheap/free. Park Visits that are a must: Greenwich Park and the Observatory - great view of the city and a doggo heaven. Richmond Park for a bike ride and/or to see the deer. And a hidden gem - Morden Hall Park - Whilst you're there, visit the Stable Hand Second-hand bookshop.
I'm also a sucker for a good coffee and breakfast. Some must-tries are - Greenwich Grind, Half Cup (Kings Cross), Dishoom Breakfast (Any location - get the chai), Peggy Jean (Richmond), Attendant (Shoreditch).
Sunday Roasts can be a bit hit and miss, but my favourites are The Ship Tavern (Holborn - Portions are HUGE!), Blacklock (Soho), Tamil Crown (Islington), Hawksmoor (slightly more spenny). Toby Carvery (nothing special but stuff your face - it's an experience)!
Where is your favourite summer destination?
There are too many amazing summer options to pick from. If you're staying in the UK, the coast of Wales is top tier!! Cornwall and Devon have some great surfing spots.
If you're getting over to Europe, then nothing beats the coast of Italy in the Summer. Split or Dubrovnik in Croatia are great shouts. One of the most stunning locations I can recommend is Kefalonia.

Where was your most memorable winter holiday?
If it's winter, you HAVE to go cold! Get yourself to Switzerland - visit Lauterbrunnen and Zermatt. For a city break - Vienna in Austria (great Christmas Markets) - check out places in the Austrian Alps whilst you are there.
What advice do you have for teachers about to make the move to the UK?
It can seem super daunting at first, and adjusting to the pace of London can feel hectic at times, but you'll quickly find your groove. My biggest piece of advice is to really immerse yourself in it, even if you are coming over alone. There is so much happening all the time that you'll never be short of something to do. Find social clubs that fit your interests, go to gigs, and go to events, you'll meet so many interesting people that will become lifelong friends.
